Hydro Excavation Services in Suffolk, VA
Precision vacuum excavation for Suffolk’s expanding Harbour View corridor and rural communities
Suffolk’s Reliable Hydro Excavation Service
Suffolk is Virginia’s largest city by land area, stretching from the urban Harbour View development to rural farmland along the North Carolina border. This diversity creates unique excavation challenges – from dense utility networks in new commercial zones to isolated agricultural properties with unmarked water and gas lines. Suffolk excavation note: Suffolk’s soil transitions from sandy loam near the rivers to heavy clay inland. Many rural properties have no 811 markings for older utility lines – hydro excavation is the only safe way to dig near unmarked infrastructure.
Digging in Suffolk: What to Know First
Local rules and conditions that shape every excavation in Suffolk.
Port 460 and the Route 58 / 460 corridor
In 2022 Suffolk rezoned about 540 acres on Pruden Boulevard at the Route 58 interchange for the Port 460 Logistics Center — up to 10 warehouses and roughly 5 million square feet. Construction began in 2024, and a project to widen Route 460 and rework its intersection with Route 58 is in the works.
Long runs, one-third of a mile at a time
Suffolk covers about 430 square miles of land. Each VA811 ticket covers up to one-third of a mile and stays valid for 15 working days, so long rural runs usually need several tickets planned in sequence. See our Virginia 811 guide.
Another city’s water lines
Portsmouth’s four water-supply reservoirs — Lake Meade, Lake Cohoon, Lake Kilby and Speights Run — are inside Suffolk, so projects here can run near water infrastructure owned by Portsmouth, not Suffolk.
How long is a VA811 ticket good for in Suffolk?
Fifteen working days from 7:00 a.m. on the next working day after you call. Request it at least 3 working days before you plan to dig, and keep each ticket’s work area within one-third of a mile.
What is Port 460?
Port 460 Logistics Center is a large warehouse and distribution complex on Pruden Boulevard at the Route 58 interchange, on a major freight corridor to the Port of Virginia.
